About Durham People Search

Durham records are divided among county, city, court, elections, vital records, and library custodians. A deed name index answers a different question from a parcel roll, court docket, voter profile, or old city directory. We built Durham People Search to make those divisions clear and to connect readers with the official portal, office counter, or historical collection suited to the record they need.

Why This Site Exists

Durham does not keep one master file about local people. The Durham County Register of Deeds indexes land instruments and marriage records. Tax Administration links property to a listed owner. North Carolina courts publish a party search, while the Board of Elections maintains voter data under state law. Vital records are split between the county Register and the state office. Durham County Library then supplies the historical bridge through directories, newspapers, and archival collections. We organize those separate search tools, office contacts, and access limits by purpose.

What You Can Find

  • Record-specific references: public records, voter registration records, and people directories
  • Durham custodians: the Register of Deeds, court clerk, Tax Administration, elections office, vital records offices, and City records staff
  • Practical search paths: court party searches, owner-to-deed trails, and historical directory work
  • North Carolina access rules: what is open, what must stay restricted, and where to request a record that is not online

Limits on Our Role

Durham People Search is a privately operated reference site. We are not connected with the City of Durham, Durham County, the State of North Carolina, any court, or any records custodian. Those boundaries mean:

  • We do not retrieve, certify, amend, or expunge records
  • We cannot verify that a named person currently lives in Durham
  • We have no power to remove a government or third-party listing
  • We do not provide legal advice about a record or dispute
  • We cannot promise that every portal, fee, hour, or office procedure remains unchanged

The custodian alone can confirm, certify, or correct its record. Information found through this site cannot be used for credit, employment, tenant, or insurance decisions.
